Another music blog
As much as I love the fact that music blogs are the new top 40 stations of the 21st Century, there is similarly uninspiring homogeneity among the musics posted among the most popular blogs. So much homogeneity, in fact, that a new genre emerged — “Blog House.”
I like Blog House (to an extent), and as a member of the press, I have been a huge proponent of the progressing electronic soundscapes. I am, however, completely sick of Justice and the gobs of like-sounding electro artists that have emerged in recent years. It’s not that they’re bad, I’m just bored of it. And recently I started to see many familiar old nuskool breaks artists, whom I used to follow religiously, also jumping on the Blog House Express. Let’s also include a plethora of American drum and bass acts on that bus.
At first I was excited that some of the artists I deeply respected were moving on and advancing their careers in this new market. But then I went back and listened to their old material…and the new stuff suddenly became horribly disappointing and unoriginal by comparison.
I decided that the blogoshpere and musicphiles alike need a refresher on the progressive breaks sounds from the early 2000’s. While I may be biased, I’m of the opinion that much of that music is timeless. Also, if speed garage can get a revamp from someone like Sinden, and Diplo can introduce the world to Baltimore club, then there must be someone out there capable of reinventing nuskool breaks for a new generation of party-goers…or maybe folks just need to start playing the old tracks again. After all, if enough people missed it the first time around, it’s basically brand new!
